[I live very near here.]

I'm taking a social theory class and we spent the first two weeks reading Marx.

Karl Marx on why we hate to work:
"...labor is external to the worker, i.e. it does not belong to his essential being; that in his work, therefore, he does not affirm himself but denies himself...His labor is therefore not voluntary, but coerced; it is forced labor...it is merely a means to satisfy needs external to it. Its alien character emerges clearly in the fact that as soon as no physical or other compulsion exists, labor is shunned like the plague."

What Karl Marx might say about the compulsion to weblog:
“Let us suppose that we had carried out production as human beings...In my production I would have objectified my individuality, its specific character, and therefore enjoyed not only an individual manifestation of my life during the activity, but also when looking at the object I would have the individual pleasure of knowing my personality to be objective, visible to the senses and hence a power beyond all doubt."
