There was a presidential election here in Ghana on Tuesday. Last night they announced that the current president had been re-elected so his supporters took to the streets to celebrate. They were out marching around waving flags last night at 11pm when I was taking a taxi home and they were out again this morning.
It wasn't a surprise the Kuffour (of the New Patriotic Party - NPP) was re-elected, although the race seemed a lot closer than I expected it to be. I'm glad he was re-elected, from what Ghanaians have told me it seems the government has been less corrupt and there's been greater tolerance for opposition parties since he took power.
one of the few things I know how to say in Twi (the local language) is eye osono (pronounced eh-y-eh, oh-soh-no). It means "this is the elephant." The elephant is the NPP party mascot.
